Quick answer
Ghana applications and overseas mission checklists commonly ask for recent 35 x 45 mm passport photos. Bring the quantity listed by your Passport Office or embassy checklist, because printed-copy requirements can vary by submission route.
Ghana embassy/passport checklist notes: recent 45 x 35 mm passport-size photographs.
For Ghana, the most useful check is not only the printed size. Applicants often prepare the photo at home, then discover at the passport office or overseas mission that the print set, background tone, or head crop does not match the checklist they were given. Use a recent front-facing image, keep the background clean white, and export a high-resolution file before printing. If your form asks for several identical photos, print them from one file so the color and crop stay consistent across the set.
Avoid glossy reflections on the forehead, strong shadows near the ears, and clothing that blends into the background. The standard daily download is useful for a quick single image; choose HD or a print sheet when you need a shop-ready layout.
One standard daily download, no signup required. Meets all official requirements.
Create PhotoGhana's transition to the biometric ePassport tightened up what used to be a relatively relaxed photo process. The old system accepted most reasonable photos; the new biometric scanners at the Passport Application Office are far pickier. They're looking for a 35 x 45mm image, white background, and your face has to be perfectly centered with a neutral expression. What catches a lot of Ghanaians off guard is the white background requirement many photo studios across the country still default to blue backdrops, which were fine before but are now rejected.
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) manages passport issuance through several channels:
All applications start through the online portal at passport.mfa.gov.gh. You fill in the form, upload your photo, and then attend a biometric enrollment session.
A 32-page Ghanaian passport costs GHS 100 with standard processing of 10-15 working days. The 48-page version is GHS 150. Express processing (available in Accra only) cuts the wait to about 5 days for an additional GHS 100. For Ghanaians abroad, the cost through high commissions and embassies is approximately $100-150 USD, and processing can take 3-6 weeks.
