Launched in June 2024, the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is Thailand's answer to the digital nomad movement. It's a game-changer: 5 years validity, 180 days per stay (extendable to 360!), and relatively easy requirements. No, the DTV is specifically for remote work with foreign clients/employers. You cannot take local Thai employment. If you want to work for Thai companies, you'll need a regular work permit and business visa.
How do I extend beyond 180 days? ▼
Visit a Thai Immigration office before your 180 days expire. Pay 1,900 THB (~$55) and you can extend for another 180 days. After that, you'll need to leave Thailand and re-enter to reset the counter.
What counts as proof of remote work? ▼
Employment contract showing remote work, freelance contracts with foreign clients, business registration, or proof of enrollment in a workcation program (Muay Thai, yoga teacher training, cooking school, etc.). Some embassies are flexible!
