Common Photo Mistakes to Avoid

Non-White Background

The DGSN (Direction Générale de la Sûreté Nationale) requires a plain white background. Blue, gray, or off-white backgrounds commonly seen in older photos won't pass the new biometric check.

Hijab Covering Face

Hijab is permitted but your entire face — from hairline to chin and both ears — must be clearly visible. The hijab must not cast shadows on the face. Use a plain, dark-colored hijab for best contrast.

Wearing Glasses

Glasses are not allowed in Moroccan passport photos. Reflections and frames obstruct the eye area, which is critical for the biometric facial recognition used at airports.

Smiling or Open Mouth

Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed. Even a slight smile changes facial geometry enough to reduce biometric matching accuracy at Mohammed V and other border crossings.

Shadows on Face

Uneven lighting from above or the side creates dark patches. Face a window during daylight hours or position yourself between two lamps for balanced, even illumination across your face.

Wrong Photo Size

Morocco uses the standard 35×45mm format. Photos that are too large, too small, or poorly cropped will be rejected at the DGSN counter. Our tool auto-crops to the exact specification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear a hijab in my Morocco passport photo?
Yes — hijab is allowed for religious reasons. However, your full face from forehead to chin must be visible, and both ears should ideally show. The hijab cannot cast any shadow on your face. Use a plain-colored scarf for the best result.
Where do I apply for a Moroccan passport?
Apply online through passeport.ma to fill out the form and book an appointment. Then visit your local DGSN office (commissariat or sûreté provinciale) with your printed form, photos, and supporting documents. Processing takes 7-15 business days.
How many photos do I need for a Moroccan passport?
You need 2 identical color photos in 35×45mm format on matte paper. Both must be recent (within 6 months). Our tool lets you download a print-ready 4×6 sheet with multiple copies.
Is VisaPicPro free for Moroccan passport photos?
Yes — completely free with no signup or watermarks. Photo studios near DGSN offices charge MAD 30-50 per set. Create your compliant photo at home and spend the savings elsewhere.
