Common Photo Mistakes to Avoid
Non-White Background
The DGSN (Direction Générale de la Sûreté Nationale) requires a plain white background. Blue, gray, or off-white backgrounds commonly seen in older photos won't pass the new biometric check.
Hijab Covering Face
Hijab is permitted but your entire face — from hairline to chin and both ears — must be clearly visible. The hijab must not cast shadows on the face. Use a plain, dark-colored hijab for best contrast.
Wearing Glasses
Glasses are not allowed in Moroccan passport photos. Reflections and frames obstruct the eye area, which is critical for the biometric facial recognition used at airports.
Smiling or Open Mouth
Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed. Even a slight smile changes facial geometry enough to reduce biometric matching accuracy at Mohammed V and other border crossings.
Shadows on Face
Uneven lighting from above or the side creates dark patches. Face a window during daylight hours or position yourself between two lamps for balanced, even illumination across your face.
Wrong Photo Size
Morocco uses the standard 35×45mm format. Photos that are too large, too small, or poorly cropped will be rejected at the DGSN counter. Our tool auto-crops to the exact specification.
