Common Photo Mistakes to Avoid
Wrong Photo Size
Cambodia uses a larger 4×6cm (40×60mm) format that's bigger than most countries. Don't submit standard 35×45mm photos — they'll be rejected at the Ministry of Interior counter.
Non-White Background
Only a plain white background is accepted. Blue or gray backgrounds common in older Cambodian studio photos are no longer valid for the current biometric passport standard.
Wearing Glasses
Remove all glasses including prescription ones. Reflections and frames interfere with the facial recognition system used at Phnom Penh International Airport's e-gates.
Smiling or Expression
Maintain a completely neutral expression — mouth closed, eyes open, looking straight at the camera. Any expression change reduces biometric matching accuracy.
Mixing Up Passport and e-Visa Sizes
Physical passport needs 4×6cm prints. The Cambodia e-Visa portal needs a 35×45mm digital JPEG under 1MB. Our tool provides both formats with the correct preset — double-check which one you need.
Shadows or Uneven Lighting
Overhead lighting from ceiling fans creates nose and chin shadows. Use natural front-facing daylight from a window for the most even illumination across your face.
