Common Photo Mistakes to Avoid

Wrong Photo Size

Argentina uses a 4×4cm (40×40mm) square format — different from most countries. Don't submit the standard 35×45mm or 2×2 inch photos. RENAPER will reject them on the spot.

Non-White Background

Only a plain white background is accepted by RENAPER. Light blue or cream backgrounds from older photo studios in Buenos Aires are no longer valid for the new DNI-linked passport.

Wearing Glasses

RENAPER banned glasses in passport photos. Remove all eyewear including prescription glasses and sunglasses. The biometric system at Ezeiza (EZE) needs a clear view of your eyes.

Smiling or Expression

Keep a completely neutral expression — boca cerrada (mouth closed), both eyes open. A smile changes facial geometry and reduces biometric matching accuracy at migration checkpoints.

Hair Covering Eyes or Ears

Your full face from forehead to chin must be visible. Tuck hair behind ears, clip back bangs. Religious head coverings are the only exception — and your face must still be fully visible.

Shadows or Red Eye

Flash photography often causes red eye and harsh shadows. Stand near a large window for soft natural light. Keep 30cm between you and the wall to avoid casting shadows on the white background.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Argentina use a square 4×4cm photo?
RENAPER (Registro Nacional de las Personas) specified a square 4×4cm format for Argentine passports and DNI. This is unique compared to the rectangular formats used by most countries. Our Argentina preset automatically outputs the correct square dimensions.
Where do I apply for an Argentine passport?
Book an appointment (turno) online at turnos.mininterior.gob.ar. Then visit your assigned RENAPER office or Registro Civil with your DNI, photos, and proof of payment. In Buenos Aires, the main RENAPER office is at Av. de Mayo 1401.
How many photos do I need for an Argentine passport?
You need 2 identical color photos in 4×4cm format on matte or semi-gloss paper. Our print layout puts multiple copies on a single 4×6 sheet — just print and cut.
Is VisaPicPro free for Argentine passport photos?
Yes — completely free with no registration or watermarks. Photo studios near RENAPER offices charge ARS 2,000-5,000 per set. Create your own compliant 4×4cm photo at home in under a minute.
